Your 2021 Marketing Do-To List

Your 2021 Marketing Do-To List

2020 is almost over and I think I speak for all of us when I say, IT’S ABOUT DANG TIME. As we look ahead to the new year, there’s a lot to plan for. Whether your business is pivoting to a more virtual presence, preparing for a new product launch, or going through a rebrand, Hey Mr. has got your back. Pull up a chair and let’s have a little chat about what your digital marketing strategy should look like in 2021.

Engage, Engage, Engage

In this day and age, it’s not enough to simply click “post” and call it good. The recipe for social media success is actually simple when you get down to it, simply use it in the way it was intended. That means engaging with your audience and community. Check and respond to your notifications regularly, comment on posts from your followers and industry, and take it one step further to reach out to folks. Add a poll to your Instagram story and ask a question. It’s an easy way to slide in to the followers that respond and make that connection.

Sounds like too much time? We’ve got you covered. Along with you all, the team at Hey Mr. is also stepping up our game in 2021 to offer new services to our clients including this engagement strategy!

Grow Your Audience

How to gain more followers has got to be one of the most-asked questions we get here and we’re not your Italian grandmother, so we’re happy to share the recipe to our secret sauce. First, a few updates on Instagram. You don’t usually think to combine that with SEO, but they’re working on making the platform more search-friendly. This means that the keywords you’re using consistently in your posts can give you a serious boost in you industry. Make the copy of your posts clear, intentional, and consistent. We’re sure you’ve all heard about Reels by now and we’re telling you to jump right on that bandwagon. Instagram is rewarding those who post Reels with a huge boost of organic reach; we’re talking ten times the eyes on your regular posts and stories.

A few other considerations to keep top of mind when growing your audience is engaging and sharing. Do you follow a ton of industry publications? Comment on their recent posts! Not only will it make your account seem more authentic, it will also get more users’ eyes on your profile. You should also be taking advantage of the sharing features from each platform. Post several times per week to your stories, retweet, and share a few articles on Facebook! This will help increase your organic reach as well as make your account more appealing to follow. No one wants to see self-serving content 100% of the time. Speaking of content, let’s talk likes versus shareability. A lot of folks prioritize the number of ‘likes’ they get on a post rather than how many people shared in. When it comes to growth, a share can get your post on the eyes of many more people and can arguably be more valuable. Keep this in mind when it comes to crafting your content masterpiece.

As you can see, this process is a long one and you’re not going to see 50,000 followers overnight unless you’ve just signed up for the Bachelor or you’ve payed for your followers. We’re here to tell you why this is a bad idea (paying for them, not going on the Bachelor). For one thing, it’s fairly obvious to your “real” audience and that can make you lose a lot of credibility. You’ll also expect to see a drop-off once you’ve either gotten what you payed for or simply run out of budget to use. Last but certainly not least, you can’t expect for your engagement to match up with the growth. Payed followers are not commissioned to interact with your content, which can provide a rough look for your overall feed when it comes to ‘likes’ per post.

Let’s talk loopholes to this payed growth structure. We’ve found that the best possible growth strategy combines paid ads with organic efforts. Put a small budget behind your Facebook page each month and you’ll be able to target individuals that are either your ideal customer or are likely to engage with your page, then sit back, relax, and watch those followers roll on in. Combine this with the organic strategy we discussed previously and you’ve got a winning combination to draw people to the page and get them to stick around.

TikTok Takeover

One major trend to come out of 2020 that didn’t involve face masks or hand sanitizer was TikTok. This booming social media platform was the number one most downloaded app this year.
